So, I need an opinion... (Not working with a HU)
I'm getting ready to install a Garmin backup camera for my Garmin GPS. I do have LEDs in my backup lights. Do you think, just for the one view only, actuated by reverse gear, I will need resistors?
I know I can do some trial and error, but maybe someone knows. Icurrently have no resistors.

I just noticed that it seems you used double-sided tape and attached the resistor to the black foam.

Word of caution: it's a 6-ohm resistor, so it is dissipating around 33w (14^2 / 6) when reverse is engaged, and it might get hot. On the other hand, it is a 50w-rated resistor and since reverse is not usually applied for long periods of time this might not be an issue. However, to be on the safe side, it might be better to attach the resistor to a metal surface using screws to make sure heat is safely dissipated.

I agree ! those resistors can get very HOT, I mounted mine to metal.

I don't know if anyone has tried checking this out. I have LEDs in my back up lights and one thing I have found out is they are sensitive to the direction they are installed in the bulb sockets. Take them out and reinstall them, turning them 180 degrees. This helped mine work properly.

I just wanted to thank you guys for this post! I had the same problem this weekend with the LED bulbs. Resistor on order. I should have known from my HID install, needed resistors to make headlights go down when shut off. Thx again for the follow up with problem fixed! 👍 Ken

Just an FYI,
When using those resistors they should be screwed to a metal part of the frame.
The resistors can get VERY hot in use so if mounted to metal that helps dissipate the heat produced.

Interesting, I have been running HIDs in the low, high and fogs for over a decade in two different C5s and never needed resistors for them.
