I have taken the car to the dealership but they claim the car has the recall done and they cant do anything until the 'codes' show up on the computer.
Some Info:
1. Battery is good - replaced in late October and I have checked the cranking amps.
2. first saw the case in sept (before battery change) and its happened ~ 3 times after that. Happens randomly, and when the lock decides to disengage and allow me to use the car is also random.
3. Dealership says recall was done, but since they cant reproduce I'm SOL.
4. The steering wheel does lock up when I get this message, I can remove the key.
Is this something that can be fixed with a new CLB? Or is there something else I can do to help fix the problem. I wasn't sure based on what I was reading from the other forum post, just wanted to get some insight from you guys - since my dealership is useless!!
So if the recall was done your steering column was not locking anymore right? The best thing to do is stay away from the stealership and install a LMC5 CLB, no more pesky message, and the problematic 2 mph fuel shut
off especially if your somewhere far from home. About 45$ and 1 hour install time and be worry free.
Most definitely! the only drawback in my opinion to the CLB is the loss of
theft prevention since the steering wheel will no lock when car is turned off.
From my understanding, the LMC5 is the only real fix.. gonna install mine this weekend as a preventative measure.. had my c5 for 12 years and have yet to experience column lock, but it’s only a matter of time I’m sure
Seems to be the go too mod. I still havent done anything for this problem. I think ill buy one and keep it around. I like the fact the steering locks when the car is parked.
Do the LMC5 and do not wait for it to start being a problem. Easy install and no more worries. Do it in the comfort of your garage where you have all the tools. No need to wait until it happens somewhere inconvienient.
Folks, people who want to steal the car are going to get it. Locked steering will not prevent the pros from getting the car.
