Hey gang I have a question, are shift kits still a good idea for my 97 C5 and who has the best one B&M or Transco?? My car has 44k on it if that matters. Thanks
Is there any particular function of a shift kit you are looking for?
Most shift kits, especially in older transmissions (TH350, TH400, etc), are used, in part, to speed up the shift time. Typically the discs are slipping for a soft, slow, comfortable shift; however, this "comfortable" shift also generates more heat.
C5 transmissions can be tuned/programmed to change the shift points, shift speeds, etc,. You may find you get the firmer shifting benefit of a shift kit by just having your transmission tweaked and not having to tear into your trans.
Hmmmm, Cream Ridge isn't that far from me, about a 45 minute ride down the Jersey Shore. I wonder how long it would take them to do it if I just drive down to them ?

Thanks for answering. I just wanted to firm up the shifts especially after it's good and warm. Cold it shifts pretty aggressively but when warm it softens up a bit. Extend the life of the trans too, no manual valve bodies just like a stage1 kit reprogram if you will. My 2003 Pontiac Bonneville I think anyway had this same trans with a lot more miles and they have a few glitches that appear that all can be fixed with a Trans-Go kit. I didn't know if GM already set them up or if any improvements can be made. Since my still has really low miles, I just wanted to know if it was worth it or not. Through the years and many cars, I have never regretted or wished I had not put a kit in, with all the electronics these days. I just was looking for opinions and or advice. Thanks
