Default serpentine belt

I replaced my serpentine belt on my 97 C5 with cpntinental elite poly v belt pt # 4060802. The problem is lot longer than the one that was on the car. The orignal one on the car belt length indicator was at 1 3/4 mark from top. The new one is at 2 1/2 mark from the top. I got the new belt for my car info. from this post. Did i get the wrong belt? If its cotrect belt is it ok its lot longer than orignal belt? The photo is with new belt on.

Reason i replaced the belt was it was making chirping noise. Stillmaking same chirping noise with new belt. I spun idler pulley when the belt was off it spun too freely and heard grinding type noise coming from inside. My guess is grean is completely dry so I'm going to replace idler pulley. The belt tensione pulkey also spun too freely my guess is grease is dry inside there too I'm going to try repacking grease inside thebelt tensioner pulley.

Replace the tensioner with the pulley. You will be happy you did. Tensioners wear out. If the bearing has been running dry, it is shot. Grease ain't going to save it.
I have replaced my belt twice and every belt was a little different length. They all worked just fine.
When you have the belt off, start the car. If chirp is still there then your a/c belt or pulley needs replacing too.

I've seen a lot of different info. I just put the 798 on my car, an 802 is what came off.

Ok. So on amazon where i bought the belt says 802 number fits my 97 C5 but pt # 798 will not fit my car. I'm confused, the checker can't be wrong. I'm wondering if thr idler pulley tensiobe is worn out and isweak. I guess i can biy new tensioner and see holds the 802 belt tight vs loose now.npw i can just press on the new belt and the idler tensioner and belt moves easily.

I vaguely remember when i bought mine through amazon that the checker was wrong in this case...let me try to look back and see which one worked for me.

*Update* Ok, just checked. I did buy the 802. It might have been the AC belt that was different. Id check the tensioner and also look for any wobble on your harmonic balancer as well.

I checked the harmonic balance and it does have wobble - it not doesn't look too bad but I don't know if this wobble falls under standard wobble. I read from other posts that orignal
GM harmonic balance is normal to have some wobble. The inner and outer part of the balance wheel is in tact and i don't see sign of separation so i'm guessing it is ok. I will keep my eye out and check time to time see the bolt is backing out, inner and outer wheel pressed in is backing out or backing in. I will get a video this weekend and try to upload here get other members opinion whether the wobble is severe or normal range.

I'm not sure if it's the angle, but it appears your tensioner is going bad. Check the gap between the body of it and where the pulley mounts. When you side a wide gap on one end, and not much gap on the other, change it asap or you'll throw belts.

IF you have wobble in your HB, It's short time to get it replaced.
Belt MFRS recommend you replace the tensioner at belt replacement...
So that could be your chirp... But, If your HB is wobbling a bit, that will
cause a chirp too.
You should replace your AC belt and tensioner too.. They are old now..

I'm going to replace the serpentine belt idler pulley 1st because i can hear grinding type noise coming from inside when I spun the pulley. Then I'm going to repack belt tensioner pulley
and see after that i'm still getting chirping/squeeking noise. but when I have the serpentine belt off I'm going to start the engine and let idle with the a/c belt on see if squeeking/chirping noise is there to determine if any one of those ac pulley, ac idler tensions, harmonic balancer, a/c comp. pulley is bad. I'll have to hold off on harmonic balancer till this issue is resolved plus I have the seat covers and foams I need to tackle w/rocking issue. Funds are bit tight now.

Pulleys require a special high temp/high speed grease.

I can only find Mobil 1 synthetic bearing grease at auto parts store. It doesn't says high temp grease though. I saw your video on You Tube on repacking bearing with grease.

Great help....

I bought the recommended belt for my car and then found that it has an under drive pulley... Returned the 800 for a 775 b because that's what was in the car... Found out that my new Katech tensioner doesn't swing in quite as far as the stock tensioner... Ended up putting in a 780.

Naturally I bought an AC belt at the same time, so I had to exchange that one too.

Where can I get this high temp/high speed bearing grease? Autozone, walmart, napa, O'reilly don't have this grease. all I can find is they carry high temp grease and regular bearing grease.

I may put in the shorter belt if I repack the tensioner pulley instead of replacing the belt tensioner.

I don't know. I would not repack sealed bearings. I would replace them.
