Default Sway bar links

Upgrading my base C5 sway bars to C6 Z51 sways. Car has 58 K street driven miles. Will my existing base links work with the C6 bars?

Thanks

Yes it will but if you do NOT have the upgraded metal end
links, you should do it now.

I went with the
Steinjager Steinjager
end links and like them but to do it over again I would have went with
Moog Moog
just because they have the grease fitting.

Changed mine shortly after I got the car a few years back. They were trashed at 60,000 miles.

If you're going for adjustable open links, then I highly recommend getting boots for them as well. Over time, dirt and humidity will destroy the bushing. Boots will extend their lifetime enormously.

Also, I would install them with the male threaded end of the link on the bottom. That way any moisture can't wick it's way into the female side, of the link, avoiding possible seizing. Anti-seize on the threads helps over time, a dab of moly paste is even better since it doesn't dry out like anti-seize does over time. You can also liberally coat the ends of the links with moly paste before putting the boots on.

The other problem with the Steinjager links is the spacers. They don't provide enough lateral force support, especially where the A arm tab is concerned. The contact area is so small that over time it will eat into the aluminium. Skirted type spacers are highly recommended here.

Use the skirted side of the spacer, along with a washer, on the aluminium will eliminate any possible gouging or galling over time. That is the setup I've used in the picture of the installed link above.

Another option is conical spacers, which eliminates the need for a washer.

The only drawback here is that they don't work well with the boots. I initially installed these when I first installed the links, but skirted spacers work perfect with the boots.

You seem to have a very good grasp of the sway bar installs . I'm the OP installing C6 Z51 bars. I'm on a budget and don't want to get **** about this. My car is a 90% cruiser, 5% twisty roads just for fun and 5% trips to the 1/8 mile drags. Although I live near the Dragon and the Smoky Mountains I'm not a road racer nor do I desire to be a canyon carver. We occasionally hit the hills for laughs but nothing serious. I just want a little better cornering from my base C5.

SO... would I not be as well off with e C6 bars and new GM end links? In my circumstances and intended usage, why do I need to spend another fifty for adjustable links from Moog?

Are these better than OEM? I can get OEM from GMpartsdirect for $5.XX each on one end and $7.XX on the other end.

Just gave you a thanks for the heads up but soon realized you're supplier wants $58.xx for two! Gnpartsdirest, com will sell you two on one end for appx $11.x and two on the other end for for appx $15.00, Do the math gmpartsdirect.com much cheaper for OEM links.

Thanks anyway - I'm going with gmpartsdirect.

I just check that on your link $27.75 each https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-pa...bC12OC1nYXM%3D

All four should be the same

There are several Gm parts houses online - you may be on the wrong one. I just ordered the links for the price I previously quoted. Don't know why you are seeing something different price wise. Anyway thanks for the info.

Oh god do they rattle? I had these on my 2010 Camaro SS and I had to go back to stock. All I can hear is rattling, rattling, rattling. I even put a rubber washer to help the rattle. Nope could still hear it.

I went with new Moog ones off amazon. Just watch putting them on I ripped a boot while removing the inner wrench. It got pinched upon tightening. Thank god amazon replaced it for free.

Take a look at them...probably really need to upgrade. For $15.-20. each its an easy decision.

RE: above quotes, not advertising but RockAuto has most brands including the top brands (A C Delco) (Moog) for 15. to 20. each.
