Hey guys. So I have a 97. I read that the 97 to 98 knock sensors are aweful. So I plan on swapping to the 99 and newer knock sensors.
Tick has 2 knock sensors and a harness for $160. Yikes. I have two knock sensors that came with an engine I purchased and then sold. Part # 10456603 which I believe to be the newer knock sensors. Great, now I just need a new harness. First, is there even a difference in harnesses between 97-98 and 99-04? Either way, I found a Dorman harness for $20 on rockauto. Part #917-033. Anybody have experience with this harness or knock sensors? Let me know, thanks.
Are your sensors bad or are just wanting to replace them because of what you read? I used the dorman harness in my Avalanche with no problems. If your sensors are working don't screw with them,if you need to replace them don't buy aftermarket buy AC Delco.
I wanted to replace them due to what I read about the 97 to 98's being bad. So I did end up changing them & using the dorman harness. Everything works good so far. I discovered however that my car had the new harness & knock sensors already installed. However, the knock sensors that were in the motor were rusted & corroded. Plus, I did all this work, might as well, so I changed it all out. Everything feels good, I cleaned a lot up, intake is disgustingly covered in carbon/oil. So I might take it off again and let it sit in something to really clean it up. It's nasty. Which made me replace my homemade catch can with a better homemade one. Anyways, everything works, thanks guys.
