Default Parking lights will not turn off

I have a 1999 coupe and every time I open the door the parking lights will turn on and the door chime will sound. When I close the door the parking lights will stay on for 15 minutes.

Also, the parking lights will stay on when the car is running even though the light switch is turned to OFF.

The multifunction switch is set to off, the key is out of the ignition, Twilight is Off, and the brightness dial is not in the 'clicked on' position. I have tried a new multifunction switch and a new ignition switch but still have the same issue.

What are some other ideas I could try?

Paul, is it the Parking lights that are staying on or the Daylight Running lights? If you set the parking brake before starting it will disable the DRL's and this will tell you if that is what you are seeing. These can be disabled if you choose to do that.

Have you read the section in your owners manual where it discusses the lighting options that you can set to control your lights? There are a number of different modes that you can set that control the lights.

Good luck... GUSTO

Thanks for the reply GUSTO.

It is the Parking lights that are staying on. I found that if I remove relay #37 (Monitored (Inadvertent) Load Control) in the pass. foot well the lights work as they should. I tried putting a new relay in for #37 and the problem persists so I today I ran without a #37 relay installed and haven't seen any negative side effects so far.

Do you know what relay #37 is used for or have a wiring diagram showing how it's connected?

Paul, I've done a search and can't seem to find anything that explains this circuit. You might want to send a PM to Bill Curlee, he's one of the electrical tech guru's here on the Forum and really knows his stuff. I pay close attention to Bill's posts, there is always something to learn!

Please do follow up with what you discover as this is a subject there doesn't seem to be a lot of posted info about.

Good luck and welcome to the Corvette Forum.

GUSTO
