I believe the 02 heads will have better valve components if the heads are complete (springs, retainers, etc.).

02 has saline filled exhauast valves and yellow springs. 01 has solid valves and blue springs. Double check that though :seeya

Exhaust valves are sodium- filled, not saline.

So if I replace the valve componets with 02 spec I'm there ?

The reason being I will be going with a s/c in the next few months and need to swap my heads out for lower compr. I have heard the LS6 heads mate up well with the s/c..........

Thanks guys.......... :cheers:

Sodium/saline just details :D Anyway, :nono: on the ls6 and SC! They are too high compression. I was looking at getting some 6L truck heads worked they drop your CR .7 over LS1 that would let you run about 2 more lbs boost safely. Look into 6L truck heads best bang for the buck IMO. :seeya

Check out the National Corvette Museum Website. There is a write up on the 02 Z06 heads.

You might check the Idaho Corvette Website, too. Lot's of info on the differences (heads & cam).

Links are on the left or one the Forum home page.

Here is a set of bare LS6 heads that are CNC ported with 70cc chambers. http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...1979&pid=90938

Stock LS6 heads are 67cc. I believe stock LS1 is smaller than 70cc as well. $1590 and no core seems like a dynamite price :yesnod:

But aren't the truck heads iron? Or are they aluminum? Don't keep up to much with gas engines. Spark Plugs are for Sissies!! :D

There are older (pre 2001 I beleive) 6 liter Iron cast GEN III heads out there. LQ4 I beleive.

You want the LQ9 post 2000 6.0 Liter Alumunim heads that share the same characterisics as the LS6 heads. The bennefit is the larger combustion chambers for forced induction and such.

2001, 2002, 2003 LS6 Head castings are identical.

I believe the '02 valve stems are shorter than '01. Shorter stems are compensated by longer pushrods. So if you use the '02 valves you need to swich to '02 pushrods. :cheers:

Actually, the 2002/2003 LS6 valve stems are Longer than 2001 LS6 or LS1 valve stems. This extra length is needed because the base circle on the 2002/2003 cam is smaller by an equal amount.
These 2002 parts can be used with 2001 parts and will still work fine, because the hydraulic lifter can adjust for the small differences in sizes.
Only thing when mixing is that the rocker arm to valve stem contact postition is less than perfect, but still works just fine.
Pushrod length is the same on all of these engines.

..... :yesnod: I'm looking for the best head castings ONLY for a s/c setup.
If I go with the LS6 heads I'll use my present valve train setup.

Thanks....... :cheers:

For a s/c setup I would definately go with the 6.0L heads as they have a lower compression ratio.

....LS1 heads are 10.3:1 I believe, how low do I need to go ?
With dual intercooling and keeping under 8psi I thought in the 10.2 - 10.8:1 range was very safe.
What's the compr of the 6L trruck heads?

The 6.0L head has 9.5:1 compression.

With dish pistons, thicker gasket, etc......you may even get below 9:1

BTW,
There are 2 types of 6.0L heads
LQ9 = aluminum
LQ4 = iron

Hope this helps!

Do you have a built motor?

Seems that 8 psi is a whole lotta boost on a ls1/6 motor. Lots of people have problems lifting the heads off the block. :cry
