Installed a new battery yesterday and when I started the car the "check engine" light is on steady. I think it's because of the installation of a new battery but not sure. Before I take it to the dealer is this something I can check and clear through the messaging system?
Turn on the ignition but don't start the engine.
Press the "reset" button to turn off any warning messages
Press and hold "options" and
While holding "options", press "fuel" four times within a 10-second period.
Write down codes and then clear them. http://www.stengel.net/diccodes.htm
Use the DIC to pull the code(s) and see what they are. More than likely just a loss of communication code or the like from the battery swap and they just need to be cleared out.
Have you tried disconnecting the battery for 5-10 minutes, most of the time when connecting battery, electrical connection is made and then broken several times when securing the last cable on to the battery, which could have set some codes.
I followed the instructions on how to clear the codes and the check engine light went out. Thank you everyone for the, as always, good advice. Now if the weather would break and the roads/potholes would get fixed I'm ready to go riding.
