First off 2002 vert auto I am just kicking around the idea of changing the diff ratio from 2.73 to 3.?? Was just wondering where or how to change the speedo so it would indicate correctly. Thanks in advance
No need to do anything with the speedo to read correctly. Gear change won't affect the speedometer reading. You will need to have your shift points adjusted by a tuner though. Those WILL be affected by the rear gear change.
If I am understanding right the speedo runs off the "wheels" and not the transmission then??
NEGATIVE!!! The wheel speed sensors are ONLY for the EBTCM to calculate for antilock braking, Active Handling (if you have it) and rear wheel Limited slip/Traction Control.
The speedo signal comes from the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) on the ring gear That signal is fed to the PCM and then digitally to the IPC (SPEEDOMETER)
RedRiderZR1 is 100% correct. If you have an A4, you will need a TUNER to set the shift points.
