Without doing all the testing for any other possibility, Is it possible that to have to replace these both units at 40k mikes? It is 14 years old but WTF. The job is a nightmare

My 04 has more mile than yours and no problems that I can tell.
What are the symptoms that you feel indicate a need replace the electric pump and jet pump ( only both units that I can think you might mean)
On Friday when I posted about being left stranded a couple hours after adding they njecter cleaned, rare coincidence that the car acted up because of that but symptoms were, out of nowhere while driving about 40mph I lost all throttle power, pulled over to safety. Tried starting it and would barely idle. After a few tries it would only crank. It’s finally at the shop with a trusted family member. At first look his assement is the pumps are bad. Until all necessary tests are completed.
just the thought of that job, removing torque tube, trans and differential.. that’s a lot of labor I wouldn’t want my guy to work for nothing on a job like that. And I’m kind of jammed at the moment

I have to disagree with "your guy" about the cause for your getting left stranded. The MOST likely cause is a I posted in the above thread. Namely the connectors for the door control modules in the A-Pillars. I stand by that post. The codes you posted were Serial Data Buss failure. That will affect EVERY sensor in the car and can/will result in the symptoms that you posted among many others. If you want to prove this then disconnect the black connector(s) and you will see that the car WILL run fine. You will have no control over the operation of anything in the door (window, locks, mirror ...etc) but the car will run fine.
You are looking for an exotic problem that is expensive to resolve when the cause is a common C5 issue, the door control module connectors.
Your knowledge gives me much needed hope. I will relay your advice and pray lol. Thanks buddy. ’preciate it!🙏🏻
Here is an even easier way for "your guy" to prove the fuel pumps are NOT the issue. In the passenger foot well behind the toe kick there are two "STAR CONNECTORS", one large one with many wires and one small one with just 4 wires. See the pictures below the wiring diagram:
Remove the top from the smaller connector. It disconnects the two door control module and seat control module serial data buss connections. You will not be able to control the seat or either door.
With the top of the small connector removed you will be able to start and drive the car. That will prove the issue is with either the left or right door control module serial data buss connection or the seat control module serial data buss connection. You can individually jumper back in a door control module or seat control module to see which one causes the problem. I will wager large money that this test WILL prove the fuel pumps are NOT an issue.
You are the man! I will make sure this is the first move. You will be the first to know the outcome.
Fuel pump fuse was blown. Replaced it. Let it run for an hour. Was fine. Drive it home. Blew a fuse. Replaced it. Blew another fuse. Must be a short in the harness or somewhere

I edited because of the limp mode comment. Seemed that the fuse was blew but was still enough of the fuse intact to make it run but barely. As soon as I put a fresh 20a in it ran like normal

After all the help with suggestions, which is greatly appreciated by the way to all the members who helped me out, turns out it was a short on the top of the gas tank that was causing the fuel pump fuse to blow one after another. Thanks again for all the advice guys! I’m back on the road and enjoying my C5 😎
