I guess I would spray on brakes part cleaner first, then Castrol Super Clean and a scrub brush. Or maybe Simple Green. There are numerous products out there. After they are clean, a coat of wax.
Did this over the winter, first clean them with soap & water to get the easy stuff off, then scrub them with a degreaser full strength. I primed and painted the barrels a light silver color and then topped it off with 3 coats of clear.
When I did mine, I sprayed them with wheel and grill cleaner. Its acid so be careful. Just spray it on the wheel and let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse it off with a hose. Next I used a soft wire polishing wheel. Then I used black diamond aluminum polish. Also-- While I had the wheels off I sprayed the aluminum parts parts under the car--(see pics) but didn't polish them, just cleaned....I was doing c6Z06 shocks, z51 bars, metal end links (cultragfactoryparts.com and new pads and rotors....
