Default Rear end whine

Gears 1-4 I can't hear it that much, but 5 and 6 you can hear it. Whines anytime on throttle. Goes away while coasting. Assuming it's pinion related? What do we have for options? All out with an RPM unit or does somebody rebuild? It's a 2000 so I think it's a 1 rib that I probably wouldn't re use anyways.

It may not be the rear end. Your transmission is also in the vivinity. If your tranny has a lot of highway miles you may have a shaft in the tranny that is worn and causing the whine. Call RPM or some other reputable shop and talk to their mechanic.

OR, a wheel bearing that is going/gone south.

I'm not sure. That's why I was asking. I had a c5 before this and the exhaust was so loud that I wouldn't have been able to hear it anyways.

i just changed out my rear end diff fluid a couple thousand miles ago, plus I had a little whine prior to that. Everything in my rear and tranny is stock and I've never had any issues with either. Unless the whining is pretty loud or you have clunking or grinding sounds I personally wouldn't worry about it. Every manual LS car I've ever head has had some minor rear end whine on the hwy.

Been having the same whining lately. Just changed the diff fluid and it’s full of metal flakes and shimmered quite nicely.

Dropping tbe the car at the shop on Tuesday for what I’m pretty certain is going to be a new diff.

Changed the fluid today and it's not pretty. The fluid that came out had the same color and duct tape. No good.

How many miles are on yours?

I have approx 70k miles on my 02Z. And Im not really understanding why we are seeing these starting to pop up now. If you look at the forums in the last few weeks I think there are 4-5 that have been talked about that just happened.

This ks the bottom of my pan. Lots of small shavings morning big, but lots of them. And the oil had a very nice metallic shimmer to it.

And that’s just what was left after I dumped the oil out into my 5g bucket I use to take it to dispose of the oil. Shavings are not a problem by themselves but I feel like It’s a lot.

The car car gets dropped off at the shop tomorrow morning. When They let me know what they think I’ll pass it along. I’m hoping they will give me some pics of the diff when they open it up. Assuming they agree the diff is the problem.

Yeah excessive shavings is never a good feeling. Well good luck hopefully you don't get bad news. Keep us posted
