I ordered to my buddy in U.S the classic first mods that usually "we" do to our Corvette, such ram air intake, long tube headers, european production exhaust, gears, sway bars, shocks, ud pulley, thermostat, brake rotors. Lot of things I think.
To make only a big order and only one shipping and make the mods all in once, I'm thinking to Cartek stage 2 heads and cam.
The question is the following:
_is it difficult to install H&C?
_can a good tuner here in Italy install heads and cam + computer tuning even if he has never seen a Corvette or a LS1 before?
_does he need special hardware or special skills for H&C or special software for computer programming?
I think that with this set up my C5 will be a blast and a nightmare for all the Porches I meet here everyday :yesnod: :flag
A good mechanic with a shop manual should have no problem with the install of parts. The difficulty will be with computer tuning. He would have to learn what works for a Corvette. You can send your PCM to Ed Wright as a good alternative or use the Predator if it proves to be good. Bona Fortuna (good luck).
As far as the tuning goes, I think the way to go for best results would be with Autotap. Then you could send your PCM with the Autotap file to a tuner and have a pretty good chance that the tuner would be able to get it right in one or two tries. Otherwise, a generic tune based on your mods from a good tuner would get you in the ballpark.
Re: Plug & Play heads and cam? (ALLTHROTTLE&NOBOTTLE)
Thanks,
really is difficult to tune a pcm?
I didn't know....
What do you mean for... CALM?
Agostini  ARE? ...I don't know....
I don't know what to do.
I should ask some tuner.
If the cam is not too wild can the PCM relearn by itself in anyway?
Are the stock injectors enough?
I don't really know very well what Autotap is but do I have to send my PCM to and from U.S. ? This means lot of $ and lot of time with the car dead in my garage.
I don't believe that tuning a PCM is really that difficult if you have the programming software and know how to use it. The software isn't cheap and learning to use it can take quite a while as it seems to be mostly trial and error.
Autotap is a read-only diagnostic software program that shows you what the PCM is doing.
Perhaps, if you're lucky, you can find a corvette club over there that knows someone who can tune a C5.
The milder the cam the less need for tuning but the less power output you'll get. The potential for power lies in the heads but it's the cam that unlocks it.
If you want to go with Cartek H/C, give them a call and ask them what they think. (908)317-4496( I don't know about the country codes, etc) ask for Dave or Julio. I'm sure they can steer you in the right direction.
