Default Fuel Gauge

Fuel gauge dropped to empty while driving. Instrument cluster displayed "Low Fuel" and dash warning symbol is on.
Gauge goes to full and back to empty when key is turned on but gauge remains at empty all other times. plenty of fuel in tank. Any ideas?

Its the sending unit in the tanks. They become oxidized over time and then you get the faulty reading you are experiencing. Are you using premium fuel? Go to the local auto parts store and buy a couple bottles of Techron and put one bottle in your tank. This is the easiest/cheapest attempt to fix it. I had this problem with my 98. Everytime I filled up the gas gauge would flip to E and show Low Fuel. I have not had a problem since using a couple bottles of Techron and driving for a few weeks seemed to fix it.

also run Chevron with TEchron. The siphon that moves the fuel from the right to the left also gets gucked up caused by the methanol in the fuel. There are a lot of responses on the Forum going back to 2001 about this problem. If possible run non methonol fuel.

Search function has ALL the info on this, there are very few "unknowns" with the C5 as they have been out for 20 years.

Chevron premium fuel w/Techron solved my issue(s) as well. Techron works!
