Engine Removal!! (steering rack or sub frame)
Hey guys,
I'm planning on removing the motor for a 383 stroker this upcoming summer. I've read up on different ways to remove the motor (I'm doing so by removing it from the top because I'm a broke college student and I can't afford a lift lol) and I've seen different guys saying that you can either remove the steering rack, which guys have stated is a pain but I don't think its that hard of a job (I've done so when doing a cam swap), or by dropping the sub frame like 5 inches so the steering rack can be lowered for the front of the motor to slide forward to clear the output shaft. If I know how to remove the steering rack, should I just do that and leave the sub frame alone? Will I have clearance issues with the 'bat-wing' oil pan and the sub frame?
Let me know what you guys think!

Here is a link to a article for removing the C5 engine from the top. I dropped the front cradle and supported the engine from the top. Was not that bad a job and I did it without help. The link I believe is from Cajun Dude.
Good luck with your repair.
