The shifter has gotten way sloppy. While driving along in drive the shifter can move to Natural without any effect on the tranny, Could it be coming loos from the transmission?
The shifter cable has a replaceable nylon bushing on each end.
Chances are one or both bushings is worn, broken or missing.
Here's a link with repair pics & video:
When you replacing the bushings don't try to bend the cable very much. The plastic housing is very brittle. If it breaks you will have to replace the entire cable. Don't ask how I know.
There is a bushing at each end of the cable. When replacing the bushing at the transmission end I found it easier to remove the shift lever from the transmission. Pop the cable with new bushing on the lever. Then reinstall the lever on the transmission. You can find the bushing at AZ or any of the parts stores.
