Default Headlight motor question.

I had another thread where my headlight motor was winding too tight , enough to keep it from going back up the next time the headlight is turned on.
Issue was resolved with a new gear. All is good now and no more issues other than the headlight door now slams down a little when I shut the headlights off.
It's definitely not as quiet as the other headlight closing. it feels like it slams shut . The stoppers are there in case you're wondering . So it has to be something else.

Thoughts ?

Tighten up the two bolts that the headlights pivot on.

Looked like rivets to me. Unless I am looking in the wrong place.
The short arm and the long arm that attach the motor to the headlights are riveted together.

It's a torque style screw with a 8mm nut on the other end, towards the rear of the headlight unit under the main cover.

Here's a picture I found with them circled. I tightened mine by hand and the lights go up and down in unison at a moderate pace.

I can't think of anything other than those 2 screws I mentioned. Hopefully someone else has a solution but it really is a simple design.

Which kind of gear did you use? The completely solid one or the one that uses a rubber isolator similar to the OEM assembly?

If it didn't have the rubber isolator, you might be feeling the effect of lacking it.

I used a plastic gear with the isolator. OEM setup. I don't believe in the brass gears. I would rather a plastic gear break rather than a motor burning up.
Swapping the plastic gear every few years is no problem. I have never kept a C5 a few years anyway. And I have had a few.

Have you checked how tightly secure are the bent retaining tabs that hold the motor to the gear case? It's possible they got loose when the gear was replaced.

If these tabs are too loose, the motor can move in relation to the gear case. This could create slop in the gear-to-worm engagement, causing premature gear failure due to wear, and perhaps also a brief gear disengagement at the end of the closing travel. This could cause the slamming you feel.

The tabs can be bent inward a bit by holding the motor on a vise and tapping the tabs in with a hammer and screwdriver or similar tool, until the motor is tightly secured to the gear case.
