Tough to beat Michelin for performance and handling . . .easy to beat them on price with Firestone Indy, Bridgestone, Nitto 555 and other non-runflats for about half the price.

The Firestones. Hands down, best bang for the buck. Running them on my C5 and my dad's C4.

I'm a fan of the General G-Max AS-05.
500 in treadwear (they last me about 30k)
and quieter than other tires Ive had.

I did a LOT of research before I purchased tires for the wife's 11 Grand Sport and Michelin Pilot Super Sport are the tire that I purchased.
They stick like glue and there very quiet!!
100% better than the OEMs that came off.

You can also get the Pilot Sport (PS2) as they are excellent also:

They now carry a PS3 tire,, Check them out.

PO had Nitto NT-05 tires on '01-04 Z06 rims. They had phenomenal dry grip (down right scary in the wet though) and would make a great tire to autocross on or for some short HPDE type track sessions, plus you could drive to and from the events on them as well. That is most likely why he went with the Nittos. Personally I did not like them at all. They were heavy, stiff, unforgiving and pounded the car hard on any road imperfection. It was like you had 10 PSI too high of tire pressure in them. I also wanted to move from the 17x9.5" front rim to a 18x9.5" front rim to make room for larger front brakes down the road.

I just installed a set of Michelin Pilot SuperSports on my '99 FRC over the weekend. The transformation in the car from switching to the Michelins was simply stunning. The car is more nimble - it actually feels smaller and ever slightly narrower - a much less ponderous feeling. All road surfaces are much quieter and way more smooth, with greatly reduced impact harness. It's hard to describe this correctly, but even though you are more isolated from road imperfections, you feel more connected to the road because the tires are so much more communicative in their feel. Plus they are much more linear in their overall response, both with breakaway and recover characteristic as well. All this on slightly heavier C6 '06-08 Z06 replica rims. Yes I know these Michelins are stupid expensive and I have to admit at bought both pairs separately from different two owners that had sold their cars, but never got around to mounting their new tires, so yes I got a great deal. But as my father would say "Tires are the only thing between your *** and the pavement" so I would recommend not scrimping on tires.

Quick parking lot photo to the car today at work.

I had Continental Extreme Contacts on my car, pretty good tires. But I recently bought new tires because I got new wheels and changed sizes. I bought Michelin's new Super Sport S4's. If you don't mind the price, depending on what size you need, you will be amazed at their overall performance (not cheap). I have two other cars, both not Vettes, one with Continental DWS06's, which I feel are excellent tires and came standard on my car. Great for four seasons. My wife's car just recently got all new tires, got rid of crappy Hankooks, actually had a sidewall blow out on the highway. Installed the General G-max AS05's, they got fantastic reviews on Tire Rack's site, almost unanimous positive reviews, seem excellent on her car, and the price was better than the tires I replaced. The Hankooks got unanimous very negative reviews.

I just ordered all 4 Firestone Indy 500's for $450. Was quoted for installation $70 at Firestone. Replacing my Michelin PS2's that lasted 15k. We'll see how well the Firestones work out vs. the Michelin's.

Make that $390. Theres a $60 rebate for 4 Firestone tires, if I actually get the rebate.

I had Nitto's for the past 3 years and not impressed in the wet nor their wear ability....just installed Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and they are so sticky in wet and dry. ( 20 x 325 in the back and 20 x 255 up front) Pricey for sure but they look great and have the best performance numbers I found in my research so here's hoping they live up to the rep.

One thing you will notice in all of the "what tires should I buy threads" is that the answer will vary significantly based on what you intend to do with the car. Show and shine? autocross? 1000mi of sunday afternoon cruises? track days? drag strip? 30k/year daily driver? rallycross?

I like the Nitto NT555 G2s. The price was right on Amazon(....yes Amazon sells tires. Who knew?)

There are basically no 200TW tires in stock C5 sizes so fun tires are out. The NT555s were mediocre at autocross. They just don't have the same grip level as something Like a BFG Rival so I pretty much got my butt kicked last season......

In addition to autocross the car made two long trips- one from PA to the NCM in Kentucky and one from PA to the Outer Banks NC. They are excellent highway tires and very good in the rain. There were a couple sections on the PA turnpike where I hit standing water at night that should have been more scary than it was. On the old Pilot Sports (still legal tread but were ~6yrs old) I would probably have been upside down in a ditch...

Wear has been good with a season of autocross and an handful of long trips but I don't have enough miles on them to have a good opinion. I'm not really concerned with longevity that much.

I'm not really sure about tire noise. They sound fine to me and are much quieter than the old Pilot Sports (again- they were 6 years old when removed) but I'm not really sure what "quiet" tires even sound like. I haven't had anything less grippy than a "ultra high performance" tire on any of my cars including my wife's daily for years.... except snow tires. My wife's 2 month old 2018 Civic has some crappy all seasons on it now and I swear they are louder then the Nittos on the C5...

I really wish there was a Rival/StarSpec/RS4/etc option for stock sizes but I guess that's what we get for having goofy staggered size rims/tires.
