Hi everyone I am new to this site I have been reading some forums and I am looking at buying a c5 corvette. I have read a lot about the steering column lock problem there does not seem to be a sure fix for this problem. am I missing something. The car I am looking at is a 2004 manual car .. LMC5 and do the brown wire mod.Been there ,done that and it seems the over whelming favorite on the forum.
Please really really read the stickies, both here in Tech and in General. They're invaluable assets going into any potential C5 purchase.
Don't be so immediately worried about column lock issues, although it should stay in your mind. The Tech sticky re: column lock is very long and detailed but is worth the read to determine what you're up against. At the most remember that re: column lock most all issues can be resolved without going to a dealer and ideally you will not want to go to a dealer anyways as 1) they will charge you an astronomical amount, 2) will not actually resolve the problem, and/or 3) will not have staff that are properly trained on handling the issue (remember C5s are getting over 20 years old now. Not many techs stay in one place for 20 years).
