has anyone installed a "push button" start on their C5....I've replaced the ignition switch once already and think it is going again...codes 1571 and 1689....stay on sometimes ....clear themselves sometimes....no come on at all some times....

Do you mean just a start button and use the key for ignition on only, or today's proximity fob, push button start/stop set up?
If the latter, I suspect the existing anti-theft circuitry would defeat you, without an almost total rework of the power/ignition circuitry.

I'd say this is a case of if you have to ask, then don't. VATS, anti-theft, proximity system interface, etc. = no thanks.
There was another thread recently about this, don't know if the guy ever made it work. OP, Google C5 pushbutton start...
Replace the ignition switch again and carry on. I would wonder why the switch is going bad, what is the reason for the failures.

failures: car is 18 years old....lots of the electronic stuff goes south on the C5...example: the oil pressure sensor or the emergency flasher, etc....not sure if it is the locking mechanism or the electronic part behind the key lock....if the codes were from rusty ground poles then I would imagine it would happen everytime, but it does not....more often than not...
in terms of the push button kits they have wires that replace each of the wire leads into the electronic ignition...not just a splice into the on/off switch....
