Okay hope I am putting this in the right place if not sorry. I started to leave on vacation last week for my first road trip in my new to me 2001 Convertible. After pulling out of the drive we quickly noticed the AC was not coming on, all it would do was to flash the light a few times and go out. As far as I know this was the first time this has happened. Needless to say we pulled back in the garage and transferred everything in my wife's Tribute and headed to MT Rushmore (great trip!)
Once back home I started the car and AC came on and worked normal, cold and could adjust the temp setting as well. Turned off AC and back on still worked. Two days later drove the car again, didn't work, light flashed and went off. Stopped at my brothers house for 1-1/2 hours got in the car started it and AC worked once again no problems. This has a dual zone
AC system by the way.
Here's what I know, AC has correct charge and is cooling on both drivers and passenger side of the car, blend door actuators all seem to working correct, out side temp seems to be correct on read out.
I have not checked for codes yet, but will this afternoon and up date this.
PS, The vacation was great only could have been better in the Corvette!
I have read on here that these control units have problems and am leaning in that direction, but also heard that the outside air temp sensor can cause this problem as well. My thinking is that the outside air sensor is not the problem because the read out is correct, unless they work off of different sensors.
Also could the interior air sensor cause this, and how can I check these?
As always any help would be appreciated, this is what makes this forum great!
The interior air sensor will not cause the compressor to cycle off. If it is bad it will set a code you can read in the dic if you run a check. Perhaps the low pressure sensor is not working correctly?

I'll check this tonight, I'll post results, thanks.
Update: Last night I did the following and AC is working, (so far). Cleared all history codes, pulled the AC fuse and relay and reinserted them. Drove the car twice and AC has worked both times.
Will try it again tonight and update. Wish me luck.
I have the same problem display/Light are out temp does not show up. Then in about 10 minutes it comes on and all is well. I have pulled the fuse and relay hoping it resets some times it works some time I have to pull ground off battery to fix it. I just learned to live with it. I think maybe it is electrical where the 12 year old relay does not have enough power to pull and engage properly. Possibly the relay or bad connection.
I leave the AC on when parking over night start car and it blows cold but often the display is blank and you can't adjust fan speed either. Then after 10 + - minutes or a couple of starts the display lights up and all is good. Vettes are weird with voltage!

This sounds a lot like the infamous control head issue, where the solder joints start to let loose.
The control head issue i refer to is in the main HVAC control, my understanding is the solder points become weak and as they began to fail various issues will start showing up such as dim lights controls not working read out spontaneously can change and basically it just doesn't work right different people that had different problems. I do hear that these can be rebuilt but it is a little bit expensive.
