2002 with 102000 miles--Out for a nice ride today and service engine light comes on. --code c1277 and c1571 along with U1540 show up--What was wierd was while I was sitting at a couple of lights the ac just stopped working--no lights, fans, nothing. When I started to roll and pushed a couple of buttons on the ac it started working again. When I got home and pulled the codes U1540 is not on the list...I have a new battery and always keep it on a charger and the EBCM has been repaired by ABSfixer. Any thoughts? FYI --I never drive it in the rain nor do I wash it--just use waterless cleaners. I don't mind doing my own repairs if it is possible. Thanks in advance.

I would check the fans to make sure they are working when the AC is on. Also check the radiator and condenser to see if there is debris causing an airflow restriction. Otherwise the problem could be refrigerant related. If 134a has been added in the past, it's possible that there is too much refrigerant in the system. In this case the system should be recovered, evacuated, and recharged.
One other possibility is the expansion device is plugged with debris.
Post #2 above offers an explanation for code P1540!!!
You listed code U1540 in your FIRST post!!!!
You need to DOUBLE CHECK THE CODES that are stored on your car. Did you mis-type the code in your first post????
Nope--it is U1540, and that is not on the list I have. After looking it up on the web it has a number of causes from loose gas cap to bad O2 sensor or solenoid problem etc...
When I stopped to fill the tank the cap was loose so that may have been the issue ( I hope) but the P1277 code still has me a bit worried. I won't be driving the car for about a week or so but I'll touch base with any of the codes that show up then. Thanks for the help guys.
