I have the EBCM code C 1214 H C and it will not clear either the H or C when I go through Diagnostics and Reset. Is this normal. Before I was able to reset and it would go away. I also wanted to Pull the ECBM fuse in the engine Department but it will not come out is there a special tool to use-I do not want to break it but thought it was worth checking?? Thoughts
Clearing codes does NOT fix anything. It just erases the record that a problem has occurred. Unless the code was a one time fluke event it WILL come back since the problem causing the event has NOT been corrected. Eventually the cause of the event will become permanent, exactly why you can now no longer clear it.
MOST LIKELY cause of your C1214 is a failed solder joint of the power relay inside the EBCM. I say that because over time your problem progressively got worse until it became permanent. Exactly what happens to the pi$$ poor soldering that was done on many C5 electronic components. Time and vibration cause complete failure of the solder joint.
Time to pull the EBCM and either repair it yourself or send it out for repair:
If you really want to determine if the EBCM maxi fuse is good you can do it without removing it from its fuse box socket. Use a digital multi meter to measure the voltage between each pin at the top of the fuse and ground using a digital multi meter. If you measure battery voltage at both pins then the fuse is good. Key must be in the ON position. If only one pin has battery voltage then the fuse is bad. I'm betting the fuse is fine.................................... .......
Thanks for the quick response. I think it is time to pull the ECBM and get it repaired.
