I dropped my C5 off today to have the Billstein shocks installed. They asked me if I had end caps? Apparently the electrical connection on the shock needs to be capped off informing the computer they are still connected? Anyone know about this, and if so, where do I get the caps?

What year C5?? Do you have the F-45 Real Time Dampening Shocks or the F-55 Magnetic Shocks. You can get away with the F-45 shock simulators (basically 10 ohm 25 watt resistors) They do sell them on line.. Some people just whack off the sensor (coil) on the F-45 Shock and zip tie it to the chassis. That's the cheep make it happen method. Doing that to the F-55 shock wont work. :-(
If you have the F-55 shocks, there is ZERO way to simulate the shocks. You have to have someone with a GM Tech 2 interface computer program the F-55 and or the F-45 RPO Code out of the Body Control Module.
De-programming the RPO Code out of the BCM is the best method. If you fail to de-program it out, you will have a ton of messages and you will be limited to 80 MPH by the PCM.
I have a 2000. do you know where I can get the F45 shock simulators? and the guy replacing my shocks has a Tech II scan tool. Is there a procedure for removing the F45 or F55 from the BCM you know of? something I can pass On?

To remove the RPO from the BCM follow these instructions
1. Hook up Tech 2, turn car on, make sure module in the rear is plugged in. Do not unplug the rear module.
2. Use Tech 2 to delete the F45 option (F55 does not appear on the menu screen, use F45).
3. Save new configuration.
4. Do not turn car off, do not remove Tech 2. Go to the module in the rear of the car, unplug the grey connector (the widest one), leave any other plug(s) in. [leave the other 1 (F45) or 2 (F55) plugged in]
5. Turn off car, leave Tech 2 plugged in.
6. Remove remaining plugs from module in the rear of car. [never plug them back in again, if you do the F45 turns on automatically]
7. Turn car on to verify the "max speed 80 mph" is gone.
8. Unplug Tech 2.
F45 (97 -2002) and F55 (2003 and 2004) were OPTIONAL suspension systems. Your car probably did not have that option (See post #6) and therefore needed nothing special to be able to replace the old shocks.....................
I AGREEEE!
If that the case, you can easily fit any C5 or C6 OEM non electronic shock and be happy. The C6 ZO6 shocks drop right in!! They work excellent and are not expensive.
