Took the car to the drag strip today and wheel hopped like a **** all 3 runs. First gear and second gear. I have a trans brace and Hinson diff mount. But when those 410 gears kick in it's all over. If you have expirience with this, what helps too eliminate it. Shocks? Tires? Other? I have 295 Bridgestone RE760 tires. They suck. I was looking at getting some NT-05 tires. Or is there a better tire out there? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

try lowering the pressure a tad first... when my car was close to stock I had some crappy bf goodrich tires that came on my old ccw's and the car hopped like crazy, after switching them out it never happened since... a set of aftermarket motor mounts to go with your diff mount would definitely help in my opinion

I AGREE!! Tire pressure may help. What suspension do you have?? Base FE-1, F-45/55, Z-51, ZO6, After Market?? MN6 or Automatic? If you have a manual transmission, If you shock the tires at launch you can easily upset the tire contact and cause the tire to bounce off the pavement.
Good Shocks also help. If yours are worn out, get some C6 ZO6 shocks. Like neutron stated, engine mounts also contribute to drive train shake. If they are still OEM, they are very suspect. Give the engine / drivetrain a power brake and have someone watch that drivers side engine mount. See if it flexes a bunch or is completely separated. Seen that a number of times.

I looked up the part number on the shocks. They come up with Z51. I'm a manual so I was trying to slip off the line. It was very harsh when I grabbed 2nd gear tho. I put in an order for Hinson motor mounts and see how that helps. Thanks guys. Also, I did try air pressure. Started at 30, went to 25, went to 22, all same result.

Just for the hell of it,,, If it were ME and I wanted to have some concrete data, I would pop off one of the rear shocks. (you and just detach one end) and see if there is ANY dampening action. It SHOULD also be PRESSURIZED and should expand when you free up one end. IF, they are no longer pressurized and or don't dampen on compression AND rebound, THEY ARE TOAST!
I suspect that you have weak shocks. Have you ever experienced this?? When you take a high speed sweeping turn and the highway has an irregular surface, the car seems to want to hop sideways????
My 02 ZO6 suffered this at 35ish thousand miles on the OEM ZO6 Shocks. New C6 ZO6 shocks solved that 100%. I have little or NO wheel hop.
I'll probably just replace them anyway. They are 15+ years old. Do you have a part number for C6Z shocks or a good place to buy them? Thanks.
I do a LOT of business with Gene Culley and Patric at CULTRAG Performance. He does a LOT of business selling GM parts and GM Performance stuff here on the forum. He usually has a good price on the C6 ZO6 Shocks. He's a forum sponsor and usually sends out a SALE POST with all that stuff on it. The shocks are around $350 ish for all four new in the box. Give him a call. (484)- 334-8833 Tell him Bill Curlee sent ya!

I've been through many since then... I originally swapped the crappy bfg kdw2's for nitto invo then toyo r888, nitto nt05r, and mickey thompson et street s/s... none of those have ever caused wheel hop and my factory wheels had toyo proxes t1r, those were fine as well... the kdw2's were one of the worst tires I have ever used

I also prefer pfadts design, pricey but they work well... there are a few other companies making copies of that design now but I'm not sure how much cheaper they are... I think since you have stock motor mounts but have a stiffer mount in the rear that discrepancy may be a contributing factor... the stock motor mounts suck and let everything move too much and it's even worse with a bigger cam... just watch your alternator while the car is running, most likely you will see it rocking back and forth so imagine what's happening when the drivetrain is shocked... I would still check the tire pressure to rule that out before spending more money... that is unless you just want to mod the car, nothing wrong with that
Thanks for all the help. Ordered shocks and mounts. I'll check back next week with the results after I install them. On a side note, after my last run at the track I noticed belt squeak. Got some belts yesterday and went to put them on and noticed the bolt loose and the pulley walking out. So I ordered more parts to fix that too. Haha.
Update. Got the mounts in and took it for a spin. I'd say it's 85% gone. Burned first gear, caught 2nd and the tires just spun with a little hick up. Before it would hop hard in 2nd. Shocks will be coming tomorrow so I'll throw those in and see if it's all gone.
I have 4:10 gears in my 99FRC with C6Z shocks. With my nitto invo 295/35/18s, I had major wheel hop on the street. Added a rear dif brace and it maybe helped a little, maybe. Swapped over to 305/3518 MT drag radials, no more wheel hop and damn it hooks now. My 2 cents...

I'm going there next. Got the shocks in and still a little hop. But boy does it ride nice now. It's lowered so the bumps were very noticeable with the old shocks. But these ones must obsorb more because it rides very smooth. Anyways, thanks for the help. Off to order some tires.
