Default C6 z51 sway bar kit

Hey guys I am thinking of replacing my stock 97 C5 sway bars with this C6 sway bar kit ( Ft sway bar 31mm, rear sway bar 25.4 mm) . For those of you who have already done this, is it worth if I don't replace the shocks from I think the thread says from 2013 c6 I'm not sure????

Also if I do is it ok to use the old OEM sway bar brackets and links from my 97?

I just did the sway bars and it is a fantastic improvement for my 2004 C5 (base).

The stabilizer bar numbers are 25919502 and 10339124. The sway bar insulators are 10387838 and 15241135 (get two each). The stabilizer links are 20822934 (get four). It is a lot of fun to drive. Wish I had done it years ago. Note these part numbers are from 2014 when I bought the parts. They have been sitting for 4 years...

WHY do you not want to replace the shocks??

YES, you will see a significant improvement in cornering but, with out adequate shocks, you will not have very good stability.

The shocks need to be able to keep the tires firmly on the pavement.

If you have the base C5 FE-1 suspension, (and that includes the F-45 Real Time Dampening suspension) the entire package is horrible for anything but daily driving under moderate handling conditions. "Trust me, I lived that NIGHTMARE!"

The OEM GM C5 shocks "regardless" of what ones you have, start to lose their dampening ability around the 35,000 - 40,000 mile mark. If you have significant mileage on your car, the shocks are most likely TOAST!

Considering how cheap shocks are I don't know why you wouldn't want to go ahead and replace them. Like Bill has stated most shocks are going to lose dampening force fairly quick. It's also not advisable you re-use the end links. OEM they're plastic and are notorious for having issues. Since you're going larger sways you might as well upgrade to a more competent end link.

NO it is not OK to reuse you original 97 end links. Most likely they are junk! I went with a front and rear sway bars made my Steinjager.
They are the same size as C6 ZO6 Bars and come with HD end links--ready to install. $386.46, PN: J0015194. When I bought mine
they were only $230 complete from and EBay seller w/free shipping.. Price has gone way up and I got them the year before last!

My all 4 sway bar end links are new OEM aluminum links. I had to replace them 6 months ago because the original ones are plastic and the rubber bushings inside them were all shot. I will upgrade the sway bars from C6 z51 for now and replace shocks next year in spring.

Maybe the thoughts have change since I had my '03. Back then the hot ticket was C5Z shocks and sways. I did both on my base '03, ride quality and handling were vastly improved.

If you already have metal endlinks, there is no need to replace them.

C6Z06 shocks are almost the same as the C5Z06 shocks (pretty much only a pro can tell them apart), and they're cheaper and more readily available than C5Z06 shocks. C6Z51 sway bars are close to the same size as C5Z06 bars, and once again cheaper and more readily available.
