I am in the beginning process now. I decided to try a different approach so as to keep any storage space available. I am mounting the subs behind the carpet panel at the back of the hatch area in front of the rear bumper. Involves removing the bumper, building a box to house the speakers and cutting the holes in the existing back panel. Carpet will remain untouched, subs will not be visible. Yes there is enough room between the actual car panel and the inside of the bumper to do this. I am just deciding if I want two subs or use a five channel amp to run one sub with a pair of speakers mounted in this box as well and the factory rear speakers. Keeping factory head unit.
Regards,
Chas

That sounds pretty intense man! Be sure to post up some pics of your project.

Any reason younwant to undertake this? The c5 z trunk is huge!! Even with the holes filled with the corner subs, I still have tones of space.

First off, not driving a FRC configuration C5, '04 coupe. Car has just under 27,000 on the clock. F55 still works and I am probably one of five people that want to keep it. Computer to control F55 in small compartment driver's side. The center tub area that most put a sub box in for me contains a small 12V compressor, a small ditty bag with some basic tools including fuses and an extra light, a cleanup/polish kit, a banner from Home Depot, I think a fire safety event item I have if I have to lie on the ground and a large manila folder containing info pertaining to the car including all codes and the reason for. The passenger side small compartment is dedicated to items such as cargo net and rear window shade. So you see, no other viable place to locate a sub. I figure, maybe not rationally, that the location would be ideal, out of the way and still make an impact on the sound system. The redhead I will be married to 41 years in Oct 14 does not like drastic change. So the factory head unit stays. Any changes made to the car have been baby steps.
So there is the rational, maybe somewhat twisted for the project at hand, but so be it.
Chas
