I'm getting ready to install B&B bullets on my 03 z06 and find what appears to be a catch can mounted on the rear of the car. I followed one line up toward the right side of the transmission and the other one is attached to nothing. The car also has a trans and diff cooler but those lines aren't connected to this thing. Can anyone tell me why a catch can would be on the transmission, if that's what this really is.
If the trans is pushed really hard (such as tracking for 30+ minutes at a time), the fluid heats up and pushes out the vent tube at the top, making a huge mess. I would wager that your vent tube is plumbed to that "catch can" to catch any spillage that occurs.
