Neither has been solved for 2002 by Chevrolet, at least for my 2002 MN6 with 168,000 miles on it.
The LMC5 is pretty much a permanent fix for column lock problems. Just went thru this earlie this year.
There is no permanent fix for EBCM problems. Some codes can be repaired and replacement EBCM's may be available, but neither fixes the underlying poor reliability. If the EBCM relay is being burned out by a problem BPMV motor, the only fix is a new BPMV ($$$$). I am simply doing without ABXZ/TC/AH.
I have a '99 and an '03, I haven't had an EBCM problem with either..yet. No column lock issues, Installed an LMC5 in both as soon as I bought them.
I do "exercise" my 99's traction control every time I do an oil change, or have the rear wheels off the ground. I did buy an EBCM and a steering wheel position sensor for the '03 while they're still available new and relatively cheap, because they'll be just as hard to come by eventually.
