Default Antenna mast retaining nut problem

I need to replace the power antenna since it won't retract. I know the motor is good as I can hear it cycling. I know this should be an easy fix but the problem is that the retaining nut on my car is down inside the rubber collar, so I can't reach it to loosen it. I don't know how to remove that collar without destroying it and I don't want to risk scratching up the paint, either. Anybody else had this problem? Ideas?

Looking at the pic I would try to see if there is access from underside. Have not had to replace my mast but that is where I would be looking. Anyone??

Remove the rear tail lights and both antenna retaining bolts then push up on the power antenna from the bottom while holding the rubber on the top, the nut might pop up for access.

Thanks Fast One. I thought I'd probably have to loosen the whole antenna from inside but was hoping for a quick(er) fix. lol

The closed antenna height in the fender is determined by the two mounting bolts, if you remove them the whole assembly can be dropped down from the grommet and then aimed out of one tail light hole to work on. To adjust the height the two bolts only need to be loosened.

Good to know. That should resolve the issue. Of course, if it turns out the mast plastic feed is broken off inside the motor I'll have to remove the whole thing anyway, but hoping for the best.
