Default Transmission - Help

Hi guys,

Figures, the last day I was going to drive the Vette before putting her away for storage and this happens. She’s an 03, automatic. When in overdrive from a stop, it’ll rev but basically crawl. Have to start in second gear and shift up to overdrive and it’s okay, but basically no first gear. Thinking the tranny is shot, but wanted some opinions before I spend the money. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Have you done the transmission fill procedure?
Get it on a lift, start the engine and shift through all the positions, then put it in park. Get under the car (engine still running) and remove the fill plug. Pump transmission fluid into the hole until it overflows. Then put the fill plug back in. The transmission fluid must be between 90 and 120 degrees.
This takes less than 10 minutes but seems to be necessary every year or two.

Thank you, I’ll give this a shot.

Most likely, the Shift B solenoid has failed. It's an easy fix in the pan or a wiring problem from PCM to trans or a bad PCM.

That would be awesome if that's all that it is! Question though - would this show up as a fault in the DIC? I checked and i'm not getting any codes...

Not sure - the solenoid is cheap so why not just replace it. A transmission shop could probably swap it out pretty quickly if you don't feel comfortable with the job.

10/24 Update: Worst case scenario. Got a call from my guy at his transmission shop. It's f'd. He said he could rebuild and beef up the tranny no problem, but neither he, or anyone in his shop has the experience to actually remove the tranny. So I'm literally up $hit creek on this one.

He probably doesn't know about the Corvette fill procedure either. Get to work on the internet, there has got to be someone in Ohio familiar with the C5. Having someone who knows these cars is paramount when working on the drivetrain. Try posting in the regional section.

LOL!! CHECK THE FILL LEVEL before you invest ANY money on any repairs. Its simple, cheep and necessary.

I AGREE with BigGun!! DO NOT allow anyone who is not C5 familiar work on your drive train.

I am POSITIVE that someone here lives in your geographic area and can recommend a competent C5/C6 specialist.
