My first GM car and I'm still in a state of shock that GM would produce such a OEM POS.....for so many years!!!

I put the Powerbond/Dayco PB1117SS Race balancer on mine. It has a thick snap ring holding the outer sleeve to the center hub. This way even if the rubber goes bad, the ring cannot come off into the timing cover or the steering rack. Well worth the money in my opinion. $250 dollors at Summit or Jegs.

The damper is just one example of poor GM engineering on these cars. Look at the 'Known Issues' sticky.

You are the second member to recommend Powerbond. Just took a look at the PB1117SS. Very impressive and only slightly more expensive than the Summit race damper. I am going to take your advice on this one. Hope this replacement turns out to be a one time thing.
