I recently bought a c5 it already has a aftermarket cam but the dealer didn’t have any information on the car.now I want to do heads but not knowing what the cam is does it matter what heads I buy.

What year is your car and what heads are on it now? What else has been done that you can confirm? Stock bottom end LS1 or LS6 that you know of?

It’s a 2003 with 241 heads and as far as I know it’s a stock ls1 bottom end.it has slp headers bbk cold air intake corsa catback exhaust.

While there are outfits that will CNC 241 heads, it's not remotely common, so the odds are your heads are original -- which begs the question of why the dealer is certain the cam is not. Since the cam is working with 241 heads, I'd bet many heads would work, from stock 243's on up -- though by all means check the rockers and pushrods, since high lift (and Z06) cams have smaller base circles and therefore longer pushrods.

If your budget allows, I would recommend buying heads/cam/springs and any other supporting parts from a supporting vendor with experience in corvettes. I would rather have components specified to work together instead of guessing. Just my opinion, good luck.

Anybody taking the time to put in a cam almost surely would remove the 241 heads. You're better off upgrading heads over cam if you're only doing one or the other, and while a cam is certainly cheaper, its just pretty rare to go through the trouble of doing a cam only 241 build. Can usually find used 243 heads for marginally more than a cam.

If you're already planning on doing heads, I'd pull the cam at the same time. I'd bet it's stock and the dealer has no idea what they're talking about, but I could be wrong. And yes it does matter a little which heads/cam you go with.. there's more to it than looking at the biggest lifts and the highest CFM and bolting it up. While that'll work, if you're going for "perfect" or one where flows are matched and balanced, you do want to know what your head/cam specs are.

if that dyno doesnt read high, that could be a tiny cam. a stock one is around the 360 mark, though, so if you have so much as an intake or exhaust, could just be that. if its not a high reading dyno, could be a little cam, like a 224/224. honestly with a small cam, you can put whatever heads you want on there. worst case is you dont have the powerband reach as high as you could, but you'd still have plenty of torque.

dont see a video, btw.
