So I bought my c5 with only one key so knowing they are a chipped key I went on eBay and bought one after I measured the olhms resistance and then took it to a lock smith and had it cut. So I put the new key today and it would not start so I put my key in and it still would not start.i went inside to scratch my head for a while, went back out with original key and it started write up so after it was warm I shut it off and used the new key and again it would not so I tried my old key and nothing until I waited a while and so that’s how it gos. I can start and stop over and over with old key but new one shuts everything down. I am sure of the holes reading but is that what is causing my problem, weird.
To keep a thief from just going through all the different resistors quickly to figure out which one the car he's trying to steal needs, once an incorrect key is detected by the car there is a waiting period before you can try again.
Something is wrong with your new key.. check the resistance again verses the old key.
What is the security light doing when you try the new key? The security indicator should come on when you first turn the key to the On position and then go off after a few seconds, if it is staying on this means that your new key's resistance is not within the correct range. If your new key was cut incorrectly it would not allow you to turn the key in the ignition switch.
Check the resistance of both keys with a DVM. They should be close. There are multiple charts on Fleebay and elsewhere showing the 12 or 13 possible values for the VATS resistances. I had to replace my Ignition Switch because the sensors which read the pellet in the lock cylinder were shot. At that time I used a SPDT rocker switch and a resistor with a value within 10 percent of the designed value to either read the key pellet resistance or bypass it with the resistor I installed.
With the rocker switch in the middle there is no resistance at all and it acts as a deadlock rendering the car unable to start.
I am betting your new key has the wrong resistance value. I too have purchased multiple keys with the correct resistance value and after being cut using my old key by a locksmith they all start the car.
