Default Check Engine Light

Just drove five minutes to gas up. Did not notice this light was on. After fueling, started engine and light was on. Checked fuel cap, on ok. Used 89 octane, mid grade as usual. Car appears to be running fine as usual. Manual states steady light may come on after fueling due to cap not on right or quality of fuel. Should take a few trip and reset itself. Any other ideas or suggestions. Do not like lit lights.

Your check engine light can be MANY different things...might be EVAP related since you had just filled up !!...watch the video and report back what you have !!

Might just be fuel quality, never mind that I'd run 91 or higher if it were my car. Same as usual gas station?

Not sure 89 oct will trip a check engine light but....the owner's manual states to use 91 oct. I use 93 oct when I find it.

True, unless the gas was poor quality (my intention mostly) and/or slightly lower than advertised (why I asked if it was his usual spot). I use 94 with Techron only.

Once you pull the codes you will find out what set the "Check Engine" lite. Myself, I notice I get better gas mileage with 91 octane (real gas) or 93 octane (E10 gas) than 89 E10 gas. The real difference is performance, the 91 octane (real gas) give slightly better acceleration in my current tune more noticeable in the 1500-2500 rpm range.

Just noticed this was post 2000
