After nearly two months after I put a down payment on my heads and cam, I finally received my heads yesterday afternoon (cams still outstanding!?!).
The specs on the heads I had ordered and expected are:
intake valve: 2.020
exhaust valve: 1.575
What I received were (as indicated on the tag that was attached to the heads):
intake valve: 2.020
exhaust valve: 1.570
Considering 2 sets of heads with same intake valve specs except the difference in the exhaust valve specs, how much of a big deal is this difference of 0.005 smaller on the exhaust valve?
It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth when I recieved something this late in the game and it is not the same specs (at least on paper) than what I had ordered.
Being that it is 12:30 am, I just sent the vendor an e-mail w/ the pic of the spec tag. I did not have a chance to hear back from the vendor yet. Meanwhile, I'd appreciate your response asap, as I am running out of time to get this mod done!
thanx in advance!
With your mods I really do not think you will lose much, if any horsepower. But, when you pay for something you expect to get the right part. The shop should send you a new set asap for the mixup. Do you think the # is an error or misprint? Can you measure the valve yourself?
C5-vert,
thanx for the reply.
the specs are indeed handwritten so a mistake is not beyond possibility (doubt it though). I do not have the tools or know-how to accurately measure myself. At this point I'm not sure I should even bother - just wondering if it would be unreasonable to demand what I had ordered or if I am splitting hairs....I don't like the thought of giving up any hp for someone else's mistakes :mad
not sure, my bet is a typo or the like. Stage I heads? I am sure whomever sent you the heads will get you all straightened out no problem. Don't worry :D :D
The extra .005" exhast valve really means nothing.. I didnt even know they made 1.575 valves, I thought they were all 1.57"...
Every tuner has valve size preferences and knows what works best in their packages.. You have to trust the tuner you buy your stuff from, and that is why the research beforehand is VERY important!
Personally, I think you're splitting hairs. You're talking about only 5/1000th of an inch, if in fact there isn't a misprint. I doubt you could even measure any difference in HP between valves that similar in size. I think other tolerances in the engine could contribute greater HP variance than the valve size difference.
thanx for all your responses. I talked it over and although it is not exactly what I ordered, I'm not making a big deal about it. Now I just want my freakin' cam that I ordered to go along with it!!!
If anyone's interested, I'll post dyno numbers once it's done.
MattG, anytime you want to sell that hood, let me know! :seeya
