Need Help Diagnosing Transmission Problem
Today I was driving home from work at about 45mph in 4th gear and I heard a strange noise underneath the vehicle. I can only best describe it as a metal on metal rattling/screeching sound. I couldn't quite tell if it was directly beneath me or slightly forward or backwards of me. The driveability of the car was unchanged so I limped it home. While driving through my neighborhood, the noise went away. I initially thought maybe it was the rubber couplers on the torque tube or a torque tube bearing etc going out but when the sound went away, now I'm not so sure. I pulled my car inside the garage and attempted a few tests. I can shift just fine through all the gears except reverse. I cannot get it in to reverse. I can force it past the lockout solenoid but i'm hesistant to try to force it into gear. When I exited the car, I could smell transmission fluid and discovered a small puddle of fluid under the transmission/rear end area. There were no previous leaks prior to today. I'm not sure what to think of this. About 5000 miles ago, I replaced the clutch, slave cylinder, master cylinder, pilot bearing, torque tube bearings, and had the transmission rebuilt. I have not had any issues until today. I'm needing help on where to start looking on this. I've taken the transmission/rear cradle out 2 times since I've owned the vehicle and am hoping I don't have to a 3rd time lol. Any and all help is appreciated.
Thanks!
