Going to install a Magnaflow X-Pipe tonight. Anyone have any tips on the best way to cut the existing pipes? I don't have a Sawzall so I was thinking about removing the pipes so I could cut them with a hacksaw (or maybe I will just rent one???). How much danger is there in snapping exhaust manifold studs etc when removing the exhaust pipes/cats. Any info on my risks here is appreciated.....in the past I've had horrible luck snapping exhaust bolts.
The cats/h-pipe combo are very heavy. You need to support the weight securely before you unbolt both ends. Maybe put a jack under it and strap it down. When I did my FLP headers, I already had a MagnaFlow x-pipe so the cat assembly was lighter because I removed the x-pipe section first. But the cat assembly was still heavy and I needed a buddy's help to lower it down once I had it unbolted.

I bought a device called a chain pipe cutter. The major advantantage of it is that it can cut the exhaust pipes while they are on the car without any risk of damaging the car. It also works very well. I was able to make the cut on each pipe in under a minute. I would highly recommend getting one or renting one. You can get one from this site:
Thanks for the input. Mark, I wish I would of known about the chain cutter a little earlier as I already went out and purchases a "cheap" sawzall.
I was going to rent a sawzall until the idiot at the rental place says "whatcha need to cut?" and I replied I need to cut the exhaust on my Vette and he says "ahhhh, I eat Vettes for lunch...ha..ha..ha". His rustang was sitting right outside.... I gave him a funny look and walked out and went next door and bought one instead. What a friggin idiot. His ego took over and he couldn't even help a customer without trying to "be cool".
