Was going quick and didn't see page 2...
The wires wires need to be tested going backwards from the light through the various connectors until the bad connection is found. Checking resistance to ground won't accomplish anything.
Since he heard it "pop", the most likely area is either a connection to the under hood electrical center or inside the under hood electrical center itself. Pulling up the electrical center and doing some quick voltage checks will quickly find it.
