Notchy 1st and shifter not completely engaging

OP re-reading your first post... honestly this is "normal" with these cars. You say it goes into first cleanly 90-90% of the time. When you're sitting at a light and it won't go into first well try putting it in 2nd and then it should go into first fine.

Agree. Happens to me too also about 5% of times. Heck happens to me in my 99 FRC and in my 2012 Tacoma. Boils down to shaft and collar teeth geometry alignment on a dead stop with some manuals, if that makes sense. Shift down to 2nd and right back to 1st and goes in fully.
