How many miles and years are on the pads and the brake fluid?

Brake pedal was firm, then over time became less firm, and you noticed a large amount of air in the system?

That doesn't sound good. I would inspect for a leak, first. Failing that, perhaps the master cylinder is not properly sealing? Also, was the cap tight?

Seals could be bad in the calipers. Look for evidence of leakage. Sometimes slightly warped rotors will pump air in if the seals are bad. Do the brakes pulsate?

Has to be a leak somewhere; Whenever you figure that problem, you might want to think about braided brake lines; I just put some on my C5 and took a road trip in it today and the freaking brakes are awesome, as hell. They are very tight and very responsive.

Could also be a problem with one of the bleeder screws not sealing properly. As the brakes are applied and released a little air can be pulled into the caliper.

Haven’t had any issues since bleeding them hoping it was residual air in the line fingers crossed.

Rubber hoses can also do that. If they are originals, I would swap them out.

If you’re getting a repeat soft pedal and no signs of leakage, I’d bet on master cylinder seals starting to leak internally. For the OEM master a Delco or NAPA kit would do well for little cash - as long as the bore is still smooth and straight.
