Default How to replace "air bag off" indicator LED

I´m disassembling various interior parts prior to sand and paint - but I´m not sure how to remove the little LED, that lights when the passenger air bag is off. It seems that is has to "pop out" on the front side, but it is very tight and I don´t want to break either the trim-piece or the LED? Can it be removed? And how?

(photo is not mine, but from another CF-user)

I will be doing some custom modifications to the center bezel. Is it possible to just cut the wires, solder in some longer wires and then install a new LED another place in the center console. My concern is about this OEM LED being more than just a warning light - and I dont want to mess with the Air bag system...?

Any help will be appreciated

Just to clarify my question: the LED is connected to two wires (orange and black). Will I get into trouble with the air bag system, if I cut these two wires and extend them to a new 12V LED mounted another place in the interior?
