Dash Pad removal
I have a cut in my dash pad in the center of the windshield about 1" long and about 1" from the base of the window.
Probably the result of removal of the annual inspection sticker here in Virginia.
The car is a 2004 CE so the Shale interior has a Corvette tax about 2x the more common black dash pads.Vinyl repair firm says that the windshield needs to come out for them to repair. First, I don't want to pay for removal and re-install of my ws. second, I think it would be difficult for the repair person to reach the center of the pad. So, I have decided to remove the dash pad.
A lot of good info on the forum. The only issue I have is the Hazard switch which appears to be a bear to get to. Found a video online that was from a 1998 dash removal and the person said to disconnect the Hazard switch harness under the bolster instead of removing the switch itself.
I have the service manual, but, it doesn't show the switch harness. Is the 2004 coupe Hazard switch harness a separate
harness like it appears to be in the 1998 car? Thanks.
Not sure where in the video he is disconnecting the harness, I do mine at the switch as pictured in the 1st photo which is from a web page, your gauge assembly has to be removed to do this, the other 2 photos show the back side of the switch where the harness plugs in.
If you PM mstromquist here on the forum he can give you the info you need as I would imagine you were watching his video.

The youtube title is: "1998 C5 Corvette Dash Pad Removal." Published Apr 23, 2014 by C5Grapeape.
The harness disconnect comment is at the 8 minute mark of the video.
If your CE is the same as my CE (I don't see why it wouldn't be), there are 2 places you can unplug it. There is a connector you can get from underneath the lower dash or kneepad, or you can do it like 6speedsteve, at the back of the switch. I have done it both ways, and prefer disconnecting at the switch. 1 less wire / harness to fish while putting it back together. Once you get the dash loose, slide it towards the back, reach behind it and disconnect. A small screwdriver helps when depressing the locking tab.
Looks like he disconnects it where it plugs in to the harness on the right side of the steering column, when he removes the dash you can see the harness from the switch hanging from the dash. I think the bolster he talks about is the one below the steering column. I could not find any pictures I have that show where it goes near the column.
