I have had my 99 C5 for about 3 weeks now and when I got it, it came with only one key fob which did not work. I went through the programming process several times with no success. After much research, I found a document on here that told what points in the remote I needed to solder, which I did and behold, the key fob worked! While I had everything apart, I cleaned the rubber boot and the contact points to make sure it was good to go. I also made sure that the Passive Mode was switched to the OFF position as I had read that causes issues as well. While standing by the car reveling in the fact that I had fixed the fob, the car locked on its own with the fob in my pocket. Having thought I accidentally pressed the button, I took it out and laid it on the steps next to the door. Over the next several minutes, the car locked and unlocked on its own without me touching the fob. Has anyone else experienced this issue or know what I have going on? I took the battery out until I can figure out why it is doing it without me pressing the buttons. I think I am going to disassemble it and make sure the rubber buttons are pressed far enough down in the body of the fob and try again... Thoughts?
My 97 passive Key Fob went Psycho on me. Finally for all intents and purposes I chucked it in the garbage. Mine was stuck in passive mode and I hated it it. Took it apart and had no luck figuring out what was wrong with the switch
I bought the GM replacement for the 97-00 fob that gets rid of the passive switch off of Amazon and it's been performing great on my 97. Good range too.
I was so sick of my locks locking and unlocking 5 times in a 30 second period just because I was walking by the car in the garage.
My spare fob has the pas lock, I keep it in my tool box. Every time i open the drawer with the fob in it would lock or unlock my 99. FIX: wrap the fob in tin foil so it can't transmit a signal. Works for me.
Thanks Mr. Black, that seems to be the reoccurring theme of folks with the passive remotes. I just placed an order for one off Amazon so that should fix it.
Here is the link. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...em-solved.html The credit goes to FastHotRod as he was the one that came up with the fix. There is a picture about 4 posts down that shows the points that need to be re-soldered and that is what fixed my remote.
