I have a 98 base coupe 6 speed with 75k. I took the car our for dinner last night with no issues, until I left the restaurant and it had developed a clunking noise which is relative to speed and can be felt in the shift ****, no feeling in steering wheel. It may have started after hitting a pot hole, not sure as I had just started driving. In gear, out of gear, clutch In, clutch out, it doesn’t go away. I didn’t go past 30mph, it did seem less apparent on acceleration. Any ideas or thoughts are greatly appreciated!!

Axel shafts also make a clunking noise when they are loose. Pop off the rear caps on the rims, I want to say those nuts are 31MM, and a breaker bar. Give them a turn...I have had this many times on the several C5's I have had...tighten them up, and clunking goes away...

Also, I lowered the vehicle on stock bolts last week before getting new tires and an alignment. I’m guessing that is unrelated but thought I would throw it out there. The vibration in the shift **** is an unpleasant feeling 😖
Maybe you can take it back to the alignment shop and have them look at it. If you hit a pot hole, it’s possible something came loose or adjusted the alignment. I’d start there on the lift.
I’ll get the car on a rack in the next couple days. Does the fact that the noise and shift **** vibration happen no matter wether I’m in gear or not eliminate anything terrible?
Well I pulled off the wheel caps and the axle nuts are tight. I took it around the block after sitting for two days and afte about 30 seconds it developed the ticking/clunking noise... I’m really confused why it happens with the clutch in and goes with the speed. Everything looks clean and feels tight underneath. What am I missing??!! 😤
