Default Intake help, Missing MAF?

Picked up a 99 frc a few weeks ago. From what I can tell it has a axle back exhaust and a BBK air intake. Drives fine, but looking it over it seems the MAF is missing? Also there is a large hose not attached to anything by the intake. I assume this should be plugged into the intake somewhere, or can it be left as is?

Can anyone advise me if anything is wrong? Is this car tuned maybe because the missing maf?

thanks

Did you search hose off intake?

Do you have a check engine light? Unless the car was tuned to run in speed density only you should have the CEL. These cars actually run great in speed density mode if tuned well.

I'm guessing they installed the intake, ditched the MAF, and disabled the MAF in the software. That tube is emissions equipment and it connected to the original intake. I'd just leave it off.

Thanks! No check engine light, runs and drives just fine. Your right it must be tuned and using speed density then.

Air pump taken off. Maf tuned out. Can you get in touch with the previous owner? I’d get the maf put back if it were my car.

Thanks. Unfortunately the previous owner did not modify the car and did not know it was tuned or even missing the MAF. I would put a maf back into the car, but I dont have a way to put a stock tune in it.

Sound like it was tuned to not need it, how does it run?

I ran my ls1 without the maf before

check the codes in the dic, if it was tuned speed density it has to trip the maf code... that code will show up in the dic but the cel should stay off

Things are all sorts of weird there....

First off, the sensor that is in the intake filter is the IAT (intake air temp) sensor. That is "supposed" to go on the air bridge in the grommet on the driver side near the throttle body that appears to just be open currently. That is allowing unfiltered air into the engine which isn't good.
Secondly, the hole that the IAT sensor is currently plugged into the on air filter is where that large rubber tube is "supposed" to go. That hose provides filtered air to the air injection pump for the AIR system.
Thirdly, that unplugged/dangling 3 pin plug is what is "supposed" to be plugged it into the MAF. The MAF should be installed between the air filter and the air bridge. Since your MAF is missing, the spacing/position of the air filter is off causing it to hit the hood when closed based on the indent in the insulation.

Noting all the things above, you still may be okay assuming the PO had the car retuned to run a speed density style tune and also tuned out the AIR injection system. (What other posters have already mentioned) Clearly the PO was a bit of a hack considering he left the whole AIR system in the car leaving you with unnecessary weight and clutter in the engine bay. Not to mention all the other goofy short cuts he took. If it is already tuned out, you may as well get rid of the pump and all the piping. I believe the whole system is 15+ pounds.

I wouldn't be too worried about making immediate changes if you don't have any DIC codes and the car runs okay, but there is definitely opportunities to clean up the mess. I'd be happy the PO only installed that intake and axle back exhaust because he clearly cut corners.

I'd get under the car and make sure the exhaust isn't attached with zip ties and duct tape...
