Default Cold air intake

Hello Guys I'm new to the Corvette world coming from a 460 big block ford mustang, I'm trying to get some more hp out of my 2000 C5 LS1, I've read about swapping the intake with an LS6 intake but some sites make it look simple other sites make it look more complicated, guess my question is it worth it or would it be better to just buy an aftermarket intake such as BBK or any other recommendations?, I'm looking to do air intake, fuel injectors, headers, exhaust and cam in the next couple of months.

If your comfortable working on cars the LS intake manifolds are easy to remove and replace. The LS6 intake is good, but the FAST intake is better if you don't mind the high price. There are too many air filter systems to recommend, but I'm happy with my SLP Blackwing, Halltech is also nice.

Your answer depends on what are your long term plans for your car. Is it going to remain stock, head and cam, super or turbocharged, Nitrous, etc. For up to 425 hp the stock if fine, if you have the 2001 or newer Corvette you already have the Z06 intake.which is good for 450 hp, That will do for a small head/cam change. When you go with a wilder cam the Aftermarket intakes become more important and will make more hp. Adding a Z06 type intake on a stock 97-00 might add up to 5 hp and 25 lbs of torque at the most. When adding a larger flowing intake you will also need PCM (engine management) changes. With Cold Air Intakes you have two choices, one that take cooler amibient air into the engine and ones that engine bay air (Heated) to the engine. Again you are not making large amounts more HP with cold air but you will know it if you drag race. Early in the C5 intro several of the Chevy engineers were into SCCA racing and they were the first to add the Blackwing and other air cleaners. Then they moved to bringing in ambient air intake systems and that has been the norm since. The other item to keep in mind is you will need to become familiar with changing the engine calibrations. EFILive and HPtuners are the most common but several other software solution are also availabe

I love corvetteforum everyone is so helpful not use to that, the mustang forums are filled with bitter people who's only advice is sell the car or part it out, guess I should explain my plans for the car better, going to be a weekend type car might see some track time here and there, or the occasional street in "Mexico" 450 to 500 HP would be good for me.
