I've had my 2001 C5 for about a month now and one issue the previous owner did not disclose was the heater/AC display is not working. Is there anything a person can do to get it to light up or is it just something to live with?

Actually I'm having mine replaced as I'm writing this at C&S Corvette.
Mine was fading away slowly for the last year till I finally couldn't read it anymore.
There are surface mounted resistors inside the module on a board that come loose or pop off the board. Its a well documented issue. Anyone that can solder can do the repair if you have a little mechanical dexterity and a little electronics knowledge .
Here is a post for you to review on repairing the module:
Be like me and find a friend with a soldering iron, then take your HVAC unit to him and have them do it. Or any electronics repair shop, they'd be able to knock it out easily if they have some instruction.
That post use to have some really good pictures of the board repairs. Sorry that photobucket is being JERKS and wont let us post pictures anymore unless you spend tons of cash on their website.
YEP.. The 8 small rectangles in the center of the board.. They develop cold solder joints and come loose at one of both ends. . Heck,, Some have found them laying in the bottom of the module. Just resoldering them resolves the dim module issue. I inspect ALL of the surdace mount components and also the bottom of the board for other bad solder joints.
THANK YOU for posting the pictures!
Bill
