Ok so I just removed the unit on my 2002 I THOUGHT was repaired(it was stuck on the bottom before but lit up perfectly) now I have the unit back in I can hear it moving but now there is NO lighting anywhere
Also the head-up display controls lights
PAGE DISPLAY OFF etc now aren’t lighting up as well they were working perfectly before the only good news for me the 3 DIC bulbs I just replaced on the other side are now ALL lighting up before only 1 was working
Are the head-up display lights on the windshield related to the control lighting and a fuse is blown or something or did I do something wrong repairing the unit?
The HUD display itself is not connected to any other lights, the only thing that controls its' brightness is the dimmer switch in the HUD control on the left side of the IPC and the photoresistor inside the HUD unit itself (changes brightness for daytime and night time). If the cable is inserted properly into the back of the console, it should light up.
The HUD control panel lights are dimmed by the regular rotary dimmer switch at the lower left of the dash, same thing that controls all other lighting.
If you removed the ribbon cable for the HUD control panel from the IPC, check to see that the contacts are clean and straight, that you didn't pull any wires out of the connector, and that it's put back in properly. If the cable connection is OK and all the dash gauges are working properly, then I don't know why the HUD lights would not go on. You can check the 2 fuses that go to the IPC, but if the gauges are working, both those fuses are OK. There is no other fuse specific to the HUD other than going through the IPC.
There is a fix for a bad HUD photoresister on here, by soldering the 2 contacts together on the back of the holder, to bypass the resistor - search for it or find my thread about my HUD display failure. This did not work for me and I had to find a new display unit to fix this problem.
Also, check over your repair for any loose wires or connections inside the unit you may have disturbed when you tried to fix the problem with the mirror. You may have caused your new problem.
Both plugs the HUD to the gauge cluster and the plug to the HUD display controls seem to be ok and in tight I realized after I pulled the cluster out I didn’t have to remove that plug now I’m wondering if I never would have touched it if both would be working

Dimmer is working perfect and it’s on the brightest setting
Took the cluster out and inspected again today all the connections look tight and I cleaned both the HUD and HUD control connection and still NO LIGHtING
So it looks like I have TWO problems, the heads up display was so low I coukdnt see it lighting up its now about half way where its supposed to be its moving up and down its just not high enough im going to open it up again and see if I can adjust it higher Its about halfway more where it was before I removed it...but looks like it has almost halfway more to go to be in a good position while driving
Im still not getting any lighting up fir the controls but all the buttons work though I guess I can try replacing a bulb and see what happens and ruling out somehow all 5 bulbs went out at the same time

I am having the exact same issue. Fixed the pivot pin on the mirror, the mirror now moves freely up & down. However, I have no light inside HUD, I even confirmed by opening the top cover of the housing.
